How do I use Reminders and Action Dates?

Know when your files need a bit of maintenance…Paper Tiger has Action Dates! A little maintenance goes a long way. Clean out files on a set schedule (use retention guidelines), move files to archives, stop continually buying more cabinets.

When you create a new Item, set an Action Date to review the Item or take action on the Item. Paper Tiger will remind you within the Reminders Horizon you have set in your Database Preferences. There are two ways to receive reminders on an item:

  1. Review Frequency: This is the interval that you set when adding a new Location or editing an existing Location, to let Paper Tiger know how often you would like a reminder to review Items in the specific Location. (1 week, 2 weeks, 1 month, 3 months, 6 months or you can select a specific date) This frequency can be changed by clicking the Locations button to view the list of Locations. Then click the Edit button to the left of the Location name or click the checkbox beside the Location in which you want to change, and click the Edit button in the upper right corner.
  2. Action Dates: Action Date is the future date in which you want to review an item, or if this item will require your action. When you want a reminder to review the item, then you can specify the future date in the Action Date box when adding or editing an Item. Paper Tiger will remind you on that date when you open the Paper Tiger application when adding or editing an Item.

You can choose the DATABASE HORIZON that will determine the time frame in which Paper Tiger will look to give you a reminder for that particular Database.

Tony,

Hold on tight, we are planning on supporting universal date formats in the future.

Jane,

If you do not want any dates, do not give your items an action date

I like the action date feature very much. And on my home computer I noticed the reminder orange colored bar across the top of the screen and I was very pleased because I knew it would get my attention. However today only one day later, I am on my acct and I now no longer see the reminder bar at the top asking me to click on the link to see what reminders I am within the window of.I also sometimes had a date of 1969 entered into a new item for which I had entered no action date.

Are you all having technical problems getting the reminder to work?

I could not use the action date.  I double clicked on Nov 10 and nothing happened.  I like the feature if it worked.
