Resolution:

This is usually caused by SQL Server not being installed correctly or is not running.

Note: for instructions relating to Windows 7, please see Turning SQL Service on for Windows 7 knowledge base article.

Note: for instructions relating to Windows 10, please see Turning SQL Service on for Windows 10 knowledge base article.

To determine if SQL Server is running,

1. Go to the Start/All Programs/Microsoft SQL Server 2005/Configuration Tools/SQL Server Configuration Manager.

2. In SQL Server Configuration Manager, expand Services, and then click SQL Server (PTPROFESSIONAL41).

3. Select "SQL Server (PTPROFESSIONAL41)" in the right window pane.

4. In the results pane, right-click (PTPROFESSIONAL41), and then click Start.

  • A red box on the icon next to SQL Server (PTPROFESSIONAL41) and on the toolbar indicates that SQL Server Agent stopped successfully.

5. Click OK.

If you cannot find the entry in the start menu, it means that SQL Server is not installed.

  • If it is running and it still won't connect email this to our technical support.
  • If it is not installed, have the user uninstall The Paper Tiger and try to reinstall. They will probably get some time of error in the SQL Server installation phase. If so, pass the incident to our technical support with the appropriate error message.
  • If it is a Network version, and the client is installed on the same computer as SQL Server, follow the same procedure as above.
  • If the client is on a separate computer, it is probably being blocked by a Firewall on the server. Follow the instructions in the Installation Documentation to configure the Firewall.
